Tragic Loss in Ngcobo

Story: Nondumiso Mpaka

A sixteen-year-old girl, Celiwe Candana, from Masonwabe in Ngcobo, tragically passed away when her house collapsed due to heavy rains and strong winds, leaving behind her three-month-old baby.

Fortunately, the baby survived and was quickly taken to All Saints Hospital in Ngcobo.

Celiwe was a student at Village High School, and many community leaders, including teachers and local residents, gathered to pay their respects to her memory.

A neighbor living nearby described that he heard a strange noise upon waking and then heard the baby crying. When he checked the shack, he discovered that the mother had already passed away, while the baby remained unharmed.

In the aftermath of this tragedy, local resident Nontembeko expressed the urgent need for housing assistance, particularly for those in vulnerable situations as the living conditions are dire.

Nobuntu Mgidi, the Chief Whip of Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality, visited the home and acknowledged how severe the situation was, promising to explore ways to provide assistance.
